Check this out!  Amesbury Middle School teacher, Gale Regis, has

provided some historical information about Amesbury High School

Tennis!  Below is the 1970 Yearbook photo of the first girls tennis team at AHS.  (There was no Boys team.)

*That's the wrestling team below the girls' photo*

The Season:  1969

Gym teacher, Katherine Volchko (see department photo), coached

the team, staying in Amesbury only 1 year.  Practices were held at the

park, where the current skatepark (used to be tennis courts) is located.

For AGT prospective and current athletes:

we are

Amesbury Girls Tennis!

join the fun in 2017-2018!

Amesbury Girls Tennis was founded, at Amesbury High School, apparently in 1969.  I've researched yearbooks and found Seniors listing Tennis as an activity, but AHS Yearbooks didn't start including Spring Sports in the Sports Section until the early 80's.  Please see information on the right of this page!

After extensive research and the assistance of past coaches and players, we now have records that show AGT made the State Tournament (.500 or higher team record for season) in the 1986, 1987, 1988, 1989, 1999, and 2000 seasons!  I could not find any information for seasons prior to 1986.  If you have any knowledge of team records, individual match records and/or coaches, please let me know.

This season (2017), we went 12-9. In 1999 and 2000, the team - under Coach Roberta Folsom - made the State tournament at 8-8 (1999) and 9-7 (2000) and in '99 made it to the 2nd round (Quarterfinals), upsetting heavily favored Marblehead 4-1.  We were happy to make it to the 1st round of states, although we fell to a very good North Reading team.

Thank you for your continued support of Amesbury Girls Tennis and tennis, in Amesbury!
